ABSTRACT

Cyberbullying is a reality that is increasingly present in the lives of young and unprotected people, which can disturb their development and wellbeing. This study aimed to explore the association between cyberbullying, suicidal ideation and parent-child communication in adolescents and young adults. The study was carried out with a sample of 401 adolescents and young adults aged between 15 and 24 years. Data were collected through the Cybervictimization Questionnaire (cyvic), the Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire (qis) and the Parent-ing Communication Assessment Scale (compa-a). Considering age, significant differences were found related to cyber-victimization. Regarding the number of hours of Internet use, differences were found associated with cybervictimization, suicidal ideation and parental communication of the mother figure, namely in the trust/sharing and meta-communication subscales. Associations were found between cybervictimization, suicidal ideation and parental communication from the father and mother. Finally, it was observed that suicidal ideation and mother availability predict cybervictimization. It is urgent that this health problem be identified and fought in a multidisciplinary way at the same pace with which technology intertwines and is preponderant in the lives of the younger generations

ABSTRACT

Abstract In recent years, the terms "bullying" and "cyberbullying" have been adopted by the Argentinian media, including the written press. These are technical terms that refer to specific problems. The local press has adopted them in order to report about the characteristics, consequences, and possible approaches to these situations. The analysis of the press' publications on a certain phenomenon enables us to see interesting aspects of the process of dissemination of information, the discourse used and the collective consciousness it creates. Therefore, the general objective of this work is focused on investigating the type of information and contents regarding cyberbullying in the Argentinian press. A qualitative methodological approach was used, which included the use of a thematic and content analysis. It is noted that only a low proportion of journalism articles was found in which the three basic characteristics of the cyberbullying were pointed out (the intentionality, the repetition in time and the existence of an imbalance of power). In addition, it is observed that the written press provides more information related to the characteristics and possible approaches to cyberbullying, and, to a lesser extent, to its detection. The negative consequences of this problem regarding the psychological health of those involved are mentioned, highlighting indicators and individual consequences, but without referring to indicators or to collective, institutional or social consequences. The development of a hostile and unsupportive school environment, the normalization of aggressive behaviors, the positive assessment of violent behavior in order to obtain social success, and the possible consequences for teachers and families are not mentioned by the press. Also, it is observed that the press gives little room to the students' point of view, who, from their experiences, attitudes and perspectives on this phenomenon, could make important contributions for the development of both prevention strategies and effective boarding tools. The findings obtained are discussed through thematic and content analysis in order to broaden the knowledge about this phenomenon in our local environment. Within the limitations of this study, it is worth mentioning that the different publications began the digitization of their copies in different years, which could affect the total number of articles surveyed and the amount registered for each of the digital portals. Likewise, for this study, only two descriptors were used to carry out the search, so future studies could incorporate other terms in order to broaden and deepen the findings. This could also contribute to generate other analysis categories, in order to record other aspects related to the type and content of information not addressed in this study.

ABSTRACT

(AU)

The research on the cross-cultural adaptation and analysis of the psychometric properties of the Cyber Aggression Questionnaire, framed within the Psychology Bachelor Degree at UCES, in collaboration with the Trinity College of Dublin, aims to found the Argentine version of the Cyber Aggression Questionnaire designed in Ireland by Corcoran and McGuckin (2014). One of the challenges that adaptations of instruments developed in other contexts present is the preservation of measurements of the construct in the languages and cultures involved. This paper describes problems, methodological resources and results obtained in the initial translation stage of the questionnaire from English to Spanish, which aimed at performing a rational and empirical analysis of the linguistic and semantic equivalence of the terms cyber aggression, cyberbullying and bullying with words in Spanish used by Argentine adolescents. It was concluded that adapting a questionnaire is a complex process that exceeds linguistic translation. (AU)

ABSTRACT

The present paper aims to present a literature review on empirical and theoretical studies about cyberbullying process. Although there are few studies about this theme and there is almost no empirical evidence found in Latin America, cyberbullying has been defined as a specific phenomenon, unique and without violence antecedents. Cyberbullying is directly related to bullying but it can happen any time and does not necessarily take place in a natural environment. Researches have shown that cyberbullying victims are more vulnerable to commit suicide than other youth, as well as to develop social and emotional problems that can lead to school dropout and poor academic achievement. Besides all, studies also evidenced that youth involved in this phenomenon are at risk for substance use and abuse as well as to present depression and anxiety symptoms when compared to those youth that do not experienced this kind of violence. The update discussion about cyberbullying is important especially focusing on prevention and intervention programs involving family (parents), school and public police makers...

ABSTRACT

This article reviews a body of research on peer harassment mode called cyberbullying and its manifestations thorough Internet and social networks. Three thematic areas are introduced into which research has been directed: risk factors, emotional aspects involved in situations of risk, and intervention strategies to prevent complex situations that arise. It is emphasized the need to appreciate the complexity of moral, ethical, legal and educational aspects behind this type of interaction in society and the systemic relationships; those are rooted, reinforced and shaped by adult society. The starting point of this review is the need to recognize the limitations of some of the studies made and the importance of redirect research and those social and educational interventions in this line. It is necessary to broad the spectrum of understanding and intervention to comprehensive perspectives in which personal, social and cultural factors become important.

ABSTRACT

The psychological harassment while modality of harassment, it does not limit itself exclusively to the labour or domestic area while fact of psychic violence exercised deliberately towards a subject in his presence and with the manifest intention or not of undermining his psychic integrity in pursuit of the obtaining of any benefit in the material or immaterial thing for the one who exercises it. It can include also áreas as the educational one and viabilizarse through the virtual thing, facilitated by the extension of the utilization of the new technologies in the classroom. On the other hand the question arises, from the psychology, brings over from the limits to the figure of the harassment or I harass when the one who exercises it it´s a subject fullly conciente neither of the scope of his acts nor of that one that it generates in the victim, due to the fact that some of his mental powers are undermined to consequences of a psychotic present sindrome.
